Freedom to Achieve  ·  4 of 9

Take the First Step

Take the First Step

I spent years hesitating to start my own business.

Not because I wasn't ready. Not because the market wasn't there. Not because I didn't know what I was doing.

Because I was running my own outdated program. The one that said the time wasn't right, the risk was too high, the perfect moment hadn't arrived yet.

The day I finally took the first step I looked back at those years of hesitation and felt one thing.

Not relief. Not pride.

Waste.

All that time. All that capability sitting unused. Not because it wasn't there. Because I hadn't given myself permission to reach for it.

The solution was simple. Take the first step. Not the whole journey. Not the five year plan. Not the perfect moment that was never going to arrive. Just the first step.

Everything after it took care of itself.

My father retired after thirty five years in that factory. I don't know how many answers left with him. I don't know what was left on the table for thirty five years because nobody thought to ask the person closest to the work what he already knew.

They probably would have wanted the answer.

They just never thought to ask.

Freedom to Achieve isn't something you give people. It's something you stop taking away from them.

My father always had it.

Nobody thought to ask.
